Abstract

Childfree is a phenomenon that has been increasingly discussed in recent years. This study aimed to examine the relationship between psychological well-being and attitudes toward childfree. The population of this study consisted of Generation Z university students. A quantitative approach was employed with 400 active university students aged 18–25 years who had never been married and were located across Indonesia. The sample was obtained using accidental sampling. Data were collected using psychological well-being and attitudes toward childfree scales, which had been tested for reliability, with Cronbach’s alpha values of 0.770 and 0.893, respectively. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment correlation. The results showed a significant negative relationship between psychological well-being and attitudes toward childfree (r = -0.161; p = 0.001). The coefficient of determination of 2.6% indicates that psychological well-being explains only a small proportion of the variation in attitudes toward childfree, while 97.4% is influenced by other factors outside the study. Therefore, the research hypothesis was accepted.
